St. Paul Man Gets 12 Years for Setting Girlfriend's Son on Fire
Crime

A St. Paul man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for setting his girlfriend’s son on fire.

Prosecutors say 55-year-old Curtis Edwin Reed doused 19-year-old Antoine Willis with lighter fluid while he was sleeping and set him on fire in July 2011. When Willis ran away, Reed followed him and continued pouring lighter fluid on him, prosecutors say.

When officers arrived at the home on Ames Avenue the day of the assault, they found Willis with burns to his head, face, neck, hands, and torso. He was taken to Regions Hospital and is expected to have permanent injuries.

Authorities say Willis had intervened in a fight between his mother and Reed earlier that morning.
